Today in Latin America, Castro Visits the United States

In continuation with the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. Today in 1959, Fidel Castro made an unofficial visit to the United States. He neither asked for, nor received aid, although some believe if he had, the US may have obliged. Eisenhower is famous for sending Nixon to meet with him instead of a face-to-face visit. One year later (April 16, 1960), Cuba would declare its socialist intentions and, after the Bay of Pigs, become a communist country.
